We traveled by ferry from Crete to Santorini which was a pleasant way to arrive and we were not in a hurry. Santorini was our final destination after a month of travel, so we were spending a few days to simply relax, do a bit of sightseeing, but mostly to enjoy its beauty. The volcanic landscape, shaped by an eruption years ago, is the island's most distinctive feature. The Caldera, with its whitewashed buildings and blue domes, provides a stunning setting that is truly unforgettable.
The sunsets in Santorini are spectacular, especially from the village of Oia where we were staying. The reddish sky casts its hues onto the white houses, creating a unique postcard-perfect view.
Formed by the volcanic eruption, Santorini's beaches are among the most extraordinary a visitor can encounter. Beaches like Perissa and Red Beach offer a combination of black and red sand, which, along with the volcanic surroundings, create an impressive landscape.
Santorini hosts several historical sites, including the ancient city of Akrotiri, known as the "Greek Pompeii," providing great insight into ancient civilizations.
Santorini boasts centuries of winemaking heritage. The volcanic soil supports a wide variety of wines, particularly Assyrtiko, which exhibits unique mineral qualities. Wine tastings and wine tours have become popular activities on the island.
And no blog about Santorini would be complete without commenting on the food. Obviously, as island in the middle of the Mediterranean gets great fish, but there was also excellent local produce and beautiful meals enjoyed.
