KATIKIES VILLA SANTORINI

Santorini, part of the Cyclades islands in the Aegean Sea, experienced a volcanic eruption in the 16th century BC that dramatically altered its terrain. The island's two main towns, Fira and Oia, feature whitewashed, cube-shaped houses that cling to cliffs above an underwater caldera. These towns offer views of the sea, small islands to the west, and beaches covered with black, red, and white lava pebbles.

We stayed in Oia at the Katikies Villa Santorini. Since Fira is a popular stop for cruise ships, we aimed to avoid the crowds of daytrippers who come ashore for brief shopping and sightseeing excursions. The location of the hotel was breathtaking, situated on the caldera, and our suite had a large hot tub overlooking the water, perfect for enjoying a glass of wine while watching the sunsets. The staff were exceptionally attentive and helpful in every way possible. The villas a are a bit more private thant the hotel, but you need to be in good enough shape to climb the stairs down to your room and back up to get anywhere. We did not find it an issue and loved our hideaway.
