When we planned this trip to Italy, we focused on the north, as we have visited Rome, Florence, Amalfi and Sicily in the past. Specifically, we wanted to check out the Dolomites and selected Backroads to take us through them. Backroads has many tour options that are either single activity or multi-activity. We chose to do a hiking tour, but they also have other multi-activity tours that include biking and kayaking. We were extremely happy with choosing Backroads as the tour was well planned and they fully delivered on our accommodations, food, and leaders.

The tour we selected was a new one for them called lodge to lodge. The premise was that we would be hiking from lodge to lodge. Hello...right...no bus transportation once we started until the end or if you needed it. We spent two nights in our first hotel, the COMO Alpina Dolomites, a beautiful 5 star hotel. Everything about the place was perfect. Comfortable clean modern design, stunning views of the Dolomites, attentive staff and Frette linens!! I was totally won over when my head went down on my pillow the first night and I peaked to see the Frette tag inside the case.
The next two nights were at The Savoy Dolomites Luxury Spa, a more traditional family run inn with a spacious comfortable room, great shower and very pleasant folks in the dining room and at the front desk. The decor is knotty pine, not exactly my aesthetic, but appropriate for ski country.
Our last night was at La Mejun, another traditional inn, but this one with a more modern look and again, quite comfortable. Como Alpina Dolomites was my favorite, but I enjoyed all three places and appreciated that Backroads did not shortchange us on value for the accommodations they put us up in.
